So not only are we all very pleased that the freeway’s expansion was voted against in Gila River earlier this week, we also had a very successful fundraiser tonight. Our second event at Lawn Gnome in downtown Phoenix went surprisingly smoother than any of us could have imagined.
Not only were we able to raise more than enough money to print out color copies of the route maps that we compiled from ADOT this week, we also were able to get about 20 letters of support written throughout the show. You can bet we will be mailing them to ADOT early next week. We were also able to start promoting our community potluck that we will be hosting March 10th @ Coronado Park . An immense number of people also stopped by our table and had great conversations with us and gave us their e-mails to stay informed with upcoming events. We will have downloadable files of the draft letters to ADOT and the Potluck flier up this week.
In the next few months we hope to build more urban support to help raise awareness and support in Ahwatukee and Laveen about the freeways threat to their communities. We are also working on doing Earth Day events for the first time. We will be discussing all this and more at the potluck on the 10th.
Congratulations to our friends with Gila River Against Loop 202 and the broader Gila River Indian Community on ANOTHER victory against the freeway. A big thanks to Lawn Gnome Publishing for hosting another great event as well as the bands that played and everyone that helped out! And thanks to everyone that consistently takes time to resist the Loop 202 as a community! We look forward to continuing the fight for healthy communities of vibrant resistance with you all!
